Car Battery and the Alarm

The last week my car would not start right up on two occasions, but if I tried again it had no problem so I did not think anything of it....until Sunday. My Sunday started off different than usual, my friend asked me to team interpret for church with her and so interpreted for a sacrament meeting and then drove to my ward in time for sacrament to start. I had tithing settlements after that and then I went out to my car to drive home. I got in my car, put the key in and turned the key to start the engine. Nothing. I tried again and the car alarm went off. I turned the alarm off and tried to start the engine again, the alarm went off again. This continued for about 5 min with me getting more and more frustrated. I called my dad asking for help and then tried again with the same results except this time my remote would not turn the car alarm off so I was sitting there turning the key until it stopped. I switched the alarm switch so it would not go off again, but apparently when the battery is about dead that doesn't matter and it will go off no matter what is happening. I was in tears because of frustration at this point because my car would not start and I was sitting in the church parking lot with my alarm going off every time I tried to start my car. Finally I went in and found one of the ladies from my relief society presidency and she got her car so we could jump my car (luckily I had jumper cables). She pulled it over and I unlocked my car and then opened the trunk to get the cables and then my alarm went off again and my remote would not work. So I got in the car and put my key in the ignition so it would stop. We popped the hood and then one of the guys from my ward came out and he saw what we were doing and came to help. We got it all hooked up and my car started right up. I thanked them and then went on my way home (taking 20 extra min so my battery could get charged up). The next afternoon my mom came to get a new battery for the car. We tried to start the car up again but the alarm just went off and it would not start up. So I got in my trunk and got the cables out and we tried to jump it. I turned my key to start it and the alarm went off. By this time the neighbors across the street had come out to see what the alarm was. My mom just waved at them. I waited a min before trying again and it started up this time. Boy am I glad that I know how to jump a car. We made it to Big O where my mom went into the store while I sat in my car with the engine going since we did not dare turn it off because we did not want to set the alarm off again. They took the car and I made sure the alarm was off (not that it mattered in the past (: ). We then went shopping while we waited. We asked the man if the alarm went off while we were gone and he said that when they went to replace the battery it went of and was so loud but apparently they got it turned off.
The lesson learned from this experience: I have a stupid alarm.
My car is working ok again and the alarm doesn't go off when I try to turn on my car so this is a good thing. Boy was this an interesting few days.

  1. I forgot to have you tell me this in person! That would have been so frustrating in the moment!
